Reelfoot landscapes

We drove 3+ hours to see the eagles. I know there are many in different areas, but they are few and far between in our area. There's supposed to be a pair at 2 of our local lakes, but unless you're out looking for them, you probably won't see them.

This lake is up near the KY/MO line, over by the Mississippi River, so they've been much colder and with all the wind, had areas of ice on the lake.

This is a fishing/hunting lake...no swimming.

Those little dark spots in the ice...duck decoys.

From a distance, I couldn't figure out why they were sitting on the ice. (I thought I saw one look at me as I was walking up!) Ha!

This is why it's not a swimming lake. Cyprus trees everywhere. The danger of being caught in underwater trees/roots, too great.

Moon-set #2

So I caught the moon setting early this morning. It sure was lovely. Did you know that a full moon in January is called a Wolf Moon? Me neither. You're welcome! :)

Injuries

We had a spring cleanup day on Tuesday. So beautiful out and we needed to do some tree trimming. (Free plug for Habitat for Humanity with his hat :)

DSC_0029

Keeping branches trimmed and off the house will reduce the occurance of ants/spiders...until they find another way in! :)

The dog wanted to help.

Unfortunately there was an accident just as we were finishing up. I have yet to figure out how she did it or where she did it. (I just know the general area she was before I noticed her on the ground licking her wound.) She's got a terrible cut on her bottom pad...^ shape and very deep...and unfortunately, there's really nothing we can do. It'll be weeks before it finally heals, I'm afraid. It also means no playing in the mud/water or swimming in the lake this weekend. Poor thing is really pitiful and it makes me sad to see her so sluggish.

DSC_0044

To add insult to injury, we had to subject her to the "cone of shame"...we just couldn't let her chew off the bandages until it's healed more. I know licking it is good for it, but it's just too deep right now to let her lick it. :(

Another try...

Now that the sun's back out, I took a few more...
I like them all, just for different reasons. The blue
sky does add something extra though.

Blooms

After a wet, chilly weekend, I was afraid my tree was
going to get snapped and lose all it's blooms. No fear, it
is still going strong and we had a beautiful sunset to
round out the day. I'm hoping it's warm enough for the
bees to come back out tomorrow.

Sunrise

There's something about this hill that has always fascinated me. And
I really don't know why. I've taken several pictures at different times
of day and so far sunrise is my favorite. The only thing that is missing
is the lone cow that's been up there when I've not had my camera!

Welcome Fall!

Technically it's a Kentucky fall, but the colors were lovely.
They are about 1-2 weeks ahead of us on the color
changes, so I will look forward to our peak shortly.

I had been waiting for the glass lake all weekend. It was
never completely smooth except for about 5 minutes. And
that included me getting from the house to the lake! And
if you look to the right, a boat was coming, so I was
snapping away, trying to make sure I got all the shots
that I wanted. I think I succeeded!

I fear...

I fear that my hummers have finally left and headed further
south. Our 90+ heat turned into 60 degree brrr and I have
not seen them in over a week. :(  These are from 2 weeks
ago, right after we had a wonderful downpour.

So long little fella's...you gave me much joy this year and many
wonderful pictures. 'Til we meet again in the spring...please hurry back!

Dawgs!

Several pictures of the crazy dogs from the last few days.

The other day when I was hooking her out,
she noticed the deer before I did and about
took my arm off. Yesterday, I noticed the deer
as I clicked it to her collar! You would think I
would be smart enough to check for the deer
before I tie her up!!

Well, hello, deer!

Cesar would be proud!

h.o.m.e.

It was a long 12 days to be gone, but we got what we needed
done, so that's good. I'm slowly getting back into the swing of
things and FINALLY went and got my Mimosa flower picture!
They are fading fast and will probably be gone within the week.

My first one which was right after the rain.
They look much better dry!

Finally ventured outside!

Had a storm come through yesterday afternoon and it really knocked the temps down...at least enough to venture outside. I even tied the dogs up and you would have thought it was still 95 degrees for all the whinning Ellie did. I think she's gotten a little too used to the air conditioning! So, after chasing this little guy around the back pond for a while and only getting butt shots, patience and a long lens finally won out. I don't know that I could have taken a more perfect picture!

Sunflower growing in the patio

So after the storm came through early last evening, I wanted to go for a drive. Lucky for me I had a willing chauffer! I specifically wanted a picture of a tree that was blooming. (Tom now wants one for the yard and I have no idea what kind of tree it is!) I've always planned on stopping to take a picture, but never do. And I'm not sure how long the thing blooms either, so I can't wait too long. Well, turns out they don't look very good wet, so I'll plan on going back in the next day or so for my picture. All was not lost though as I got a couple nice landscape pictures and we had another beautiful sunset. So we pulled into a field right before we got back home and I got a couple nice ones.

That IS humidity hanging in the air! Nice, huh?!
