We are ALL ready for spring. We may not have had the snow that the north has had, but we are not used to it being so cold for so long here. One day last month it was in the 60's and I grabbed up the kids and we went hiking. It was just too pretty to just hang out at home. So glad we did.

Over the river (stream) we go...

To halfway down...

Someone's gonna fall off the my defense, I HAD handed off my camera to the kid standing in the water and it was more like a large step down that I missed and landed bottom first in the cold water...and to kids laughing. Plus I had put my phone in my front pocket, just in case. Ha! Ya gotta live life! Best day ever with the kids...not really best day ever, but it was a great day.

And totally worth getting wet over!

It's so much prettier when the leaves are on the trees.

Taking waterfall pictures when I hear..."Hey mom, look." Geez, boys!

Come on it, the water's great. Not.

It may be a tad blurry, but it's my favorite picture. I have no idea what he was laughing at, but it's pure joy. Oh and the dork went and stood under the water. Get out and live life! It's way too short, so make the best of every day!

Dedication Part 2

Since we finished the mile and a half in a little over an hour, we decided to hit a couple more on the way home. It day was too beautiful.

Foster falls. We didn't hike down to the bottom, but just stopped to look at it. Pretty soon it'll be down to a trickle again if we don't get some more rain.

Heading down the mountain...a beautiful patchwork of landscape.

Old Fort Archaeological Park has a lot of falls along their trails too

Step falls...and you wonder where it gets its name?! The last time we were here we could walk out on them. You'd get wet, but not swept over. So no walking in the water this time. It was just running too fast!

I love sunny days, but sun/waterfalls do not go together. It is so hard to photograph a waterfall without blowing it all out because of the brightness. But I worked with what I had.

DSC_0313 web

It was getting late in the day, so we were hurrying our way through the last few...and even skipped a few because we were finally worn out!

You can get up close and personal at these falls also.

As long as you practice safe hiking, we can all enjoy God's gifts for many years to come.

Dedication...part 1

Sometimes working at a non-profit is not about work, but about love, hugs and reassurance. It makes me appreciate my family a little more and the "limited" time we get to spend together anymore. My Mother's Day gift was requesting time together. Unfortunately 1 had to work and since we are trying to instill a work ethic for him, I let him slide on that one. But I know it won't be the last one we can't spend together. I just have to appreciate the time we do get together...and the out-of-the-blue hug I'll get every once in awhile. In the meantime, we hiked one of my favorite trails. It's got several waterfalls and several hidden gems along it's mile and a half trail.

They ALL were!

DSC_0025 web

We had so much rain this spring that the water levels were great! There's nothing worse than seeing a waterfall with just a trickle!

DSC_0026 web

Long exposure in daylight is tough without blowing it into just a white image. I took a lot of pictures and threw away a lot of bad ones! Sometimes it's just trial and error!

DSC_0040 web

It was hard to keep them out of my pictures sometimes!

DSC_0044 web

The last picture was on the path. This one was about halfway climbing down and someone spotted a small cave and wanted to investigate! So he was looking for the flashlight.

DSC_0066 web

It's not the easiest climb down, but it was so worth it!

My little creature catcher!

Another falls

DSC_0163 web

Not sure if these are just growing on the tree or if it's because of all the extra rain we've had? Maybe both?

DSC_0164 web

It was the only tree that I saw like that. Weird.

These are great swimming holes...too bad the water was still freezing...although the dog did not care!

Safety is a key to safe hiking. It amazes me that there are no barriers. You would not find that in a lot of parks. Appreciate nature and the forces around you and you can coexist...and for heavens sake, use some common sense. Unfortunately there's been several falls in recent weeks at local waterfalls and I guarantee you most of them were from carelessness.

DSC_0209 web

When you close your eyes and listen...those are the same waters that were running 2000 years ago. God's canvas is simply amazing. We really need to appreciate it more.

DSC_0212 web

For as much as she is not my dog, she would always come back to check on me to make sure I was ok.

DSC_0243 web

The end of the trail yields a massive opening of fallen rock. Not really a cave, but a massive opening. Unfortunately to get back to where we started, we had to take the path that basically climbs to the top of it.

Let's hike!

We've got a new youth group starting up at church and everyone's excited about it. They planned a short hike on Sunday and we decided to tag along. We've hiked this spot before, but haven't been back in a few was fun to see it from the kids perspective...and realize most have them have never done anything like this before.

2nd fall hike

Rainy and overcast, but it's a nice trail to hike. Went with some
friends and the grandparents. I thought the colors would have
changed more, but the greens outweighed the yellows and
oranges...a few more weeks...

Stone Door in the distance (right hand corner)

Stone Door zoomed in
(when you see them looking over the edge,
THIS is where they are!)

Across from the outlook

Overlook from Stone Door

Overlook from Stone Door

Climbers rules:
Safety first...6 ft from edge is standing, 3 ft from
edge kneeling and belly crawling to peer over
the edge. Falling 300+ feet will really
ruin your day!

Nice view!

The lookout where I had zoomed in to Stone Door
is waaayyyy in the distance. Almost in the center of
the picture. The little clearing surrounded by trees.

Notice where the adult is!

Always the one to find
the critters!

He held it the whole way back and
went to find a Ranger to find out
what kind it was...way to go
little dude!

What goes down must go back fun!

These 2 crack me up with their
facial expressions!

Dude, what?!
