Winter Sunset

Wednesday night I was doing the first church van pickup and I knew the sunset was beautiful, because I could catch glimpses of it from my sideview mirror. Finally the other adult told me to stop as we crested a hill before our first pickup...I was way ahead of him! And this is why my camera goes just about everywhere with me!

It just does not get any prettier than this! Thank you God for your glorious painting!

New Lens

Ever since I had my telephoto lens stolen, I've been wanting to replace it. But what I decided was that I wasn't buying junk anymore. Not that what I had was junk, because it wasn't. Some of my favorite pictures were taken with my kit lens and an inexpensive telephoto. Learning about light and how to make it work for you will allow you to take great pictures with basic lenses. But I decided I was going to buy "good" glass. Sharp, fast glass. I would love to own the Nikon 70-200/2.8 lens. THAT will probably never happen...unless I can save enough money to buy it used. BUT, what I discovered, is before the 70-200, they had the 80-200/2.8 on the market. And you can find it used, if you're patient. Lucky for me, I did. And I'm in love.

One of the first pictures I took with it. So beautiful with it's sharpness and blurriness.

First let me explain about my chickens. They are spoiled. Extremely spoiled. So in saying that, it's EXTREMELY hard to get a good picture of them, because as soon as I come out, they come running to me, looking for a treat or snack. So getting down at their level will usually bring them running over to me, which is why it's hard to get a good shot of them. But, even though I cut Harriet's feet off trying to be quick, this is an awesome picture taken with an awesome lens. The blurry (bokah) background is gorgeous with total sharpness on Harriet.

Holy rainbow Batchick! How I missed this picture until now! I was uploading these and saw this one that I didn't process and couldn't believe it. How did I miss the blurry, beautiful, bokah background. It's just gorgeous. Harriet must just love getting her picture taken. This picture makes me love the 80-200 even more. Worth.every.penny. The bonus will be the muscles I gain from lifting it! :D

Another sunset

It had clouded up the other night, but about 4pm, I noticed the clouds clearing a bit and knew it would be a great night for a beautiful sunset. So we started off in hopes of finding a better/higher view. Heading out of town, we happened to be following our local BBVFD. Turns out there was a small field on fire right after where we were turning.

Apparently there's not an easy way for the truck to get across the creek bed from the right to the fire over to the left.

Where there is a will (or fire), there is a way! Too small for the engine, but I think this little tanker was able to follow the creek bed until it opened up. Not sure what they would have done had the fire been any bigger!

Just past the fire area, up a hill and looking west, we had this view.

Further down the road we had this view. (I may have to post the before/after of this, because my settings were off and this was a complete save.) And it's my favorite picture in a long time! I may even print this on canvas.

Down another road, chasing the sunset, we pulled into a field. As I came over the hill, I think we scared each other!

It changes so fast, it's really incredible.

Next time we'll be on the other side of this hill! I think the view would be even better!

We've had some amazing sunsets the last few weeks. We've also had very little sun. So, when I noticed some pink poking through at dinner time, I grabbed my camera and ran out back.

sunset-0251 web

I took a few pictures and walked back to the house. As I looked back, the sky had lit up with pinks and purples, so I ran back. I am amazed at how quick it changed and how vibrant it kept getting! The 2nd picture was taken 4 minutes later.

So glad I was able to capture it!

My snowy cutie pie! I love this picture of him and all his mismatched colors! He's more excited about getting dressed and getting out to play in the snow. Who cares what he's wearing!

Fall 2012, part 2

Fall break was last Thursday/Friday. Me, being the "evil" mom, forgot to make dentist appointments that were long overdue, so they only had early appointments. Muhahaha...7:30am...20 miles from here = the little darlings are NOT happy to be getting up early on their day off! Not my problem. Actually once they were up and moving, they were fine. And it could have been worse, there were quite a few kids already there, so that means they have even EARLIER appointments! Mental note taken! :)

We took the backroads home...after I took the little darlings to the grocery store with me...geez, what a big mistake! I hate wasting a trip to town though without doing several things, so I was sorta screwed. They got donuts out of me. ;) Anyway, as we're cutting cross country, we passed several cotton fields that had been picked. Continuing on, one of them noticed a huge lake in the distance...a lake I never know was there. And you could see it moving with the wind. So we took a detour.

Turns out it was a "lake of cotton"!

We had to find a place to turn around and found this gem.

It's been a crazy week in this small little town. (When your town size of 300 jumps to 100,000+, you KNOW it's going to be nuts!) Now I know why we left town last year!! Funny how God changes things up on us. Fall break isn't until next weekend this year and Punk #1 still has band competitions until next weekend. Plus, I don't think we were ready to learn the lessons we're learning this year. Lessons we didn't know we "needed" to learn? There's some that are struggling with accepting them and learning from them. It's hard for people to accept something that's "free" strings attached. It's also hard for some people to accept the notion of NOT taking any donations. No donations requested, required nor accepted. "But 'how' ...will we...I don't know. It's not my job to answer that question. The road to the unknown is by Faith.

I know I am learning about Grace...and boy is it amazing. I was beyond Blessed by the few people I met yesterday as they came into park their RV's and trailers. I saw Grace given to a couple that showed up expecting their booth (that they paid for a few yards over) was gone. We showed them Grace and found room for them at the "inn". And when the light bulb went off in his head as to what we were saying...he walked away in tears because he "got it". Grace is all around us...have YOU seen it? Will you recognize it?

Dear God, Thank You for our beautiful fall colors and our awesome weather this weekend.

Silly me didn't even realize I had passed 100 posts. I
was up at o-dark-30 today to drive across the county to do
a dropoff. Because of the time change, I (thought) I had
missed a decent sunrise picture, since I had taken my good
camera with me instead of just my cell camera...lucky for me
I saw this before it disappeared into the morning light.

I'm submitting 3 framed prints Monday to be considered for
show/sale in a new gallery exhibit. I'm nervous, excited and
petrified that they won't like them or will decline because
they've got too many photo entries. Time will tell. Until then,
I will take this as a sign of a new day dawning.

I took a drive...

So I treated myself to a drive today. Just got in the car
and headed off. It was a glorious day.

EDIT: Love this so much I went back and inserted the larger picture.

This was taken yesterday when I took a short drive,
looking for some cool fog pictures. Found the barn
instead. Heard a noise on the side of me and turned
to investigate...found HIM checking me out!
Hello Mr Bull!

Bedford Lake...not as much color as I was hoping

Leaving Bedford Lake...wish the picture would
have shown all the leaves falling. They are really
hard to see.

Welcome Fall!

Technically it's a Kentucky fall, but the colors were lovely.
They are about 1-2 weeks ahead of us on the color
changes, so I will look forward to our peak shortly.

I had been waiting for the glass lake all weekend. It was
never completely smooth except for about 5 minutes. And
that included me getting from the house to the lake! And
if you look to the right, a boat was coming, so I was
snapping away, trying to make sure I got all the shots
that I wanted. I think I succeeded!

2 posts in 1 day...Whoo hoo!

Actually I thought I had posted these already, but I realized
that I had so many other pictures, that I almost forgot about
these. We had a whopper of a storm come thru Saturday power for over an hour and a half...NOT COOL!
Ha! Literally! Anyway, after the big storm came through, we
had an amazing cloud display right before sunset. I have not
seen anything like it before. The pinks/greens were really
cool/weird. Just little circles of color. It was an awesome sight!
(You almost have to click on the picture to really see the color
