NYC, day 2 (evening)

Day 2 was a very long day! After dinner, we had reservations at the Empire State Building at 8:30pm. It was 8:00pm and I was getting worried about our reservations...along with the fact that it was still raining/cloudy...and traffic WAS NOT helping!

We finally determined we were going to have to walk/hurry the last few blocks. Hahahahahaha...I had my walking app on the whole day and I was, at that point, at 35 miles! By the end of the day it was at 45.17 miles! Even if I take off 20 miles for the bus/ferry rides, 25 walking miles is A LOT! Had I zoomed it a little closer, you would see the back and forth all over Manhattan that we did! THAT was walking!

So it was decided...we could either sit on the bus, going nowhere, or we could walk/hurry the last few blocks to the Empire State Building. Hmmm, we were all exhausted...except the kids, of course. So off we started...

This was where we were going...looks pretty close, right? Uh huh. It sure was...not.

I have to say, had we not had to hustle/walk, I would not have seen Macy's. Granted we didn't get to stop, but still pretty cool to walk by it.

We finally made it! And wouldn't you know it, the bus pulled up right as we walked in the door. :/ Up, up, up we went...less than a minute to go up 80 floors. As I walked around the observation deck, I started to get disappointed that the clouds were not going to clear. And then this happened...

Slowly, the just started dissipating.

I tried to get to each side...some clearer than others.

My last shot before the clouds/rain returned. I now know what it feels like to be in a cloud when it starts raining. It's an immediate downpour! We had a great 30 minutes where the skies cleared. Thanks God. What a view!

Dear Winter...part 3

I really hate to say it, but pictures just do not do it justice. The sun just made everything sparkle and you just cannot see that in the pictures.

And against the dark sky, it was just beautiful. So pretty in fact that I had to pull over to take pictures.

I tried different angles and though pretty, just not the same.

Everything just sparkled like diamonds.

Don't let the sun/blue skies fool you, it was freezing out!

Sometimes a cellphone picture is all you've got to capture a fleeting moment. Another beautiful sunset reflected off the passing storm clouds.

My kids have gotten good at bribery...shoot, who am I kidding, they're always trying something! It USUALLY doesn't work. But this time it did and it benefited both of us. Punk #2 was bored and wanted to go running and couldn't find anyone to run with him. RUNNING?! HA! Well, THAT wasn't happening! But I told him I would go on a bike ride with him IF he let me take some pictures. Alrighty, he was good with that and I got an awesome picture!

FYI...I did NOT touch his eyes at all...that's all reflection from the clouds. Always look for the light!

Another sunset

We've been blessed with some AMAZING sunsets lately...and the other night at the fair was no exception. I wish I had had time to grab my big camera, but since we were parking car, I had to settle for my phone. It still makes you realize you're just a little peon in the grand scheme of things! I guess this was my "gift" for working 7 hours! :)

Another sunset

Another sunset from the other night. We've had a lot of rain since I took this picture...what a blessing.

2 pictures that tell a completely different story. The first one taken on an early morning run to town last week. It looks like a cold winter day, but with cool clouds though, which is why I stopped in the middle of the road to take the picture. Good thing there's no traffic at that time of the morning! The next picture looks like it's going to be a beautiful day at the lake as the fog burns off. Looks can be deceiving! In the first picture, it was quite warm, but the cold/rain had not come through yet...and the lake was freezing (as I hiked down there in my jammies because I was afraid I'd miss the picture I saw in my head if I took the time to get dressed)...and it was beautiful as the sun was out! The lake is just no fun when it's cold out...but that's just my opinion!

Another before/after rollover with just minor adjustments...after 7 days of rain, cold and yes, snow, I needed a reminder of what that big, yellow thing looks like. Hoping it returns today!

We were supposed to get bad storms today. The kids got out of school early "just in case"...well, we may not have gotten the storms, but we got an awesome sunset.

Sunday Drive

We took a short drive last night as the sun
was setting. The air was out at home and it was
a nice reprieve, even if it was a warm breeze.

Same cloud, but several minutes later and several
miles closer. Amazing how quickly it changes!

Silly me didn't even realize I had passed 100 posts. I
was up at o-dark-30 today to drive across the county to do
a dropoff. Because of the time change, I (thought) I had
missed a decent sunrise picture, since I had taken my good
camera with me instead of just my cell camera...lucky for me
I saw this before it disappeared into the morning light.

I'm submitting 3 framed prints Monday to be considered for
show/sale in a new gallery exhibit. I'm nervous, excited and
petrified that they won't like them or will decline because
they've got too many photo entries. Time will tell. Until then,
I will take this as a sign of a new day dawning.

Popcorn and Cotton Candy

Looking west and north gave us 2 different cloud sunsets. Kinda
weird, but beautiful nonetheless.

2 posts in 1 day...Whoo hoo!

Actually I thought I had posted these already, but I realized
that I had so many other pictures, that I almost forgot about
these. We had a whopper of a storm come thru Saturday power for over an hour and a half...NOT COOL!
Ha! Literally! Anyway, after the big storm came through, we
had an amazing cloud display right before sunset. I have not
seen anything like it before. The pinks/greens were really
cool/weird. Just little circles of color. It was an awesome sight!

Finally, a few (new) pictures!

This is what happens when the kids are out of town. Cleaning? What? This is more enjoyable! :)

Finally downloaded the cloud pictures from the other night. Just as awesome as I remember. And also the same night Maison took a bike ride around the neighborhood about 8pm. He comes back and says "everyone's outside working in their the dark!" Well, my response was that it was the only time people are brave enough to venture outside in this heat!

The cloud formations the past few days have been incredible. Gotta love thunderheads! As long as they're giving us views like this!

Still working on thoughts...

Woke up today thinking about all the wonderful pictures I've taken in the past year...
so much I've learned in the last year...
mostly by trial/error...
but how much in life isn't trial and error?

Took this last summer at sunset...
this is undoctored and all I did was crop it a little.
Pretty wild, huh...
Now, see what a few words does to this picture...
Thanks Dad for suggesting it!!
