I'm taking a trip soon and I've been doing some research on editing. I really like the HDR look in certain landscape photos. HDR is short for high dynamic range...and basically takes several photos and brings out tons of detail. I am basically looking for the "easy" way to do it without spending any money and making it a quick process. I think I've discovered it!

I took this picture a few weeks ago after our ice storm. I like the picture, but felt there might be "more" that I could do to it. Enter in my discovery editing.

Enter in the "faux" hdr processing. It just pops now and I love how easy and quickly I was able to do it. Now that I know the process, when I have a few minutes, I can read up on "how" it happens. Whenever I find that spare minute! :)

Chicks, pt 2

It was nice to finally get outside! Since it was rather warm, I decided to let the chicks out for a short while. It was still a little cool and since they've still got most of their down feathers, they weren't out long.

Long enough to check out the dog and start learning how to scratch and forage for bugs/worms.

If I didn't know that they were not related, I'd think she hatched this one!

Kitten even got into the action. Henrietta ran her off though. Animals are hilarious if you just watch their body language.

With thoughts of spring coming, comes thoughts of new chickens. And when you go into a store that has chicks, the urge to buy them is overwhelming! Of course I HAD to give in to that urge!

The "first" set I bought, I bought in error. For some reason I had straight runs mixed up with pullets. Straight runs and unsexed and pullets "should be" females. So my little black chicks are going to be a tossup.

The "second" set of chicks I bought "should be" all females. And hopefully they are the same as what I got last year, because I love my buff orffington. Only time will tell. The dog still loves them though.

This picture cracks me up. I'm not sure if it's a "are you my momma" standoff or a "dude, get out of our food" standoff.

Chicks are just adorable!

She really wanted nothing to do with them, just their food. I swear she's a pig in a hen costume.

Winter lingers pt 2

I think even the horses are tired of the winter weather...

DSC_5124 web

Or maybe they're just tired of the lack of snacks! :)

DSC_5130 eb

Still a beautiful snowy backdrop!

I love how anything colorful pops with a snowy background.

Come on spring! We're all waiting!

Winter lingers

The snow was beautiful when it came down that night. And the fact that it was gone the same day, awesome!

DSC_5114 web

Snow is so much easier to deal with than ice. The fact that it melts rather quickly, a bonus!

I love how the red barn just pops against the white background.

The dog loves snow...

The kitten, not so much!

Winter seems to be lingering. No sooner were we done with the ice, than the snow came. The one nice thing about this snow was gone that same day! So before I slid my way to work that morning, I wanted to try to get some good bird pictures with the snow. If we're going to have it, I might as well use it to my advantage!

Snow just makes the picture just a little bit better.

I could never get close enough to capture the doves, so the finches had to do.

I have always loved feeding the birds in the winter and the hummingbirds in the summer. I can't WAIT for my hummers to come back!
